Blog's First Aniversary

Posted by Exalt on February 24, 2011 at 10:19 AM

Without much fanfare or celebration, this blog's first aniversary came to pass yesterday. I realised I don't blog enough to make this site popular, but there's hardly any motivation to blog about minor entertainment news, even if it is touhou related. OTZ

Just a quick update then, the schoolwork is once again killing me. Most recently got the Panasonic LX5, my first camera. All the photos in this article were taken using it.

I got An2a's Petite Fatal 5 and the accompanying calender on my desk now. Excellent artwork, she's my personal favourite touhou illustrator. Also still using a Shigunyan+Pink+Milk Bar Calender from last year that lasts til this March.

The left side of my table is dominated by Sanae Shimapan >_<"

Also received both sets of the Touhou Nendoroido Petite, and I've actually got 2 spare sets of set two(Marisa, Patch, Alice), and will be selling them as soon as I find a buyer, price is SGD$55.

Buy 3 copies - one for use, one for display, and one for preservation

Other recent or not-so-recent arrivals included the Griffon Enterprises Yuyuko(Imperisahble Night ver.) and 1/7 Remilia(Spear the Gungnir)..

Also got a Kotobukiya PVC 1/8 Yukari from Amiami, and it came with a free Jigsaw puzzle of the source illustration of the figure.

Pretty small for 500 pieces, making it quite a hard puzzle.

Ques-Q Sanae. Shimapan :O

Also got a whole bunch of doujinshi, most of which were released at C79. Ryo Ueda's Touhou Art Collection 2 was reviewed by icie from pireze here, it's a fantastic quality artbook for its price so do check the review out.

When you don't even have time to open some doujinshi..:(

Was strongly considering going for Reitaisai 8, but unfortunately all my peers were either busy or didn't want to go, so I didn't have much motivation to travel alone. Don't think I'll be going.

School-wise, this semester promises to bog me down with numerous assignments too. I IRL failz.

Thanks for the well wishes. Unfortunately it isn't well updated, with only about 1-2 posts per month.

That is quite the amount of merchandise you have there~

I agree, making a popular blog is hard, there's going to only be so many Danny Choos, Sankakus etc. It's probably even harder for you because Japanese subculture is already such a hot topic for bloggers big and small,

Anyways, as I always say, no guts no glory, most people that don't see immediate results abandon their blogs within weeks or months, so it's good that you've stuck to it.

Yup, and to make matters worse my webhost just went totally offline for a few days last week. I was so afraid that they were gone because they suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth... Would have been dreadful if all that data was suddenly lost.

Right now I am just posting updates of news that I feel my friends ought to know about. I think I've got to stick at this for at least a couple of years before it gets many viewers. People come and go, as do blogs... the main problem is not losing interest or losing heart.

By the way, did you know that TH13 was just announced at 7.45 a.m. this morning? I only heard about it at about 9.00, making me somewhat slower than my peers XD Gonna do a blog post on it soon.

I was one of those people that found out fairly late, not that it matters too much since I don't tend to blog about news anyways~ I'm glad ZUN is making it easier, tbh I found the last few games too hard, kind of killed the fun for me, which is why I couldn't really connect with the SA/UFO crew too much because they were roflstomping me so badly.

Popularity takes awhile to grow, but in addition to persistence I think there also needs to be greater post frequency, people wouldn't check your site for news daily if they knew you only update about 2-3 times a month and only about news that is big (meaning everyone else also probably covered it)... so I would say there is no harm in blogging about that minor entertainment news or even expanding beyond Touhou, as Touhou is still fairly niche in the west.
